The morning rays of a waking sun
Hanging droplets in a fair sky
Catch me awake and unnawares.

Those glittering beads of innocence
Pry pack the last glowing embers of the city pyre
Chilled radience retreats back to slumber
Hybernating through summer days.

For once the sky is illumined
But my street is sunk in shadow
So thick I nearly drown.

With simmering contrast in my eyes
A warm mug etched into my palm
I wrestle with the dying grip of sleep
And move to fill the emptiness inside.

Jumped the gun
Evening of fun
Tide of one.

There is a demon in my front porch
He hides between the floorplanks
And whistles in the eves
Through the evenings cold and dark.

There is a demon in my front porch
He fiddles with the latches
And scritches on the windows
Till the neighbours complain.

There is a demon in my front porch
He must be bound by one stronger than I
He could toss me about
Like the child I am no longer.

There is a demon in my front porch
He guards my home from night-men
So in the mornings
I leave some food for him.

The silence in your eyes
Was ten times the answer I required,
Stalking dejectedly back to the shadows
That drape the thickly-woven branches
Of my gloaming consciousness.
Time flowing over its banks
Sweeps my feet from under me.
And I am carried gently, coldly
Out to a solitary sea.

I don't want to stare at this hole forever.

Sooner or later you become the monster you create.

In your eyes I have met my fate

And been mastered by it.

A lie is a poor substitute for the truth.

But every thought I have is false.

Would that I could be your pulse.

And go straight to your heart.
How can we concider it a crime?
You father all your excuses
Won't you string us a line?

You're walking tall, you step up to the line
I'm not a patient man but you're no saint
The ball is in your court this time.

Tears run down your face
Now you've found a place
The saddest goodbyes are the best
Now you've found a home.

It's sad we never got to know each other.
Beneath that grime lies sterner stuff
It's not enough, this time.
I wish it were.

Do you cry, regrets?
The last goodbye is best
So turn your back and rest
And we will drive you home.

Take me to the rock that is higher than I
The waves dash against my feet
And the winds give voice to the storm
Where you and I used to come and meet.
But we shall meet no more.
Take me to the rock that is higher than I
There we shall gaze out to the sea
And hold hands through the dawn.

Beneath the black of his success
He's not drowning in a carcrash
He is wallpapered to the nation
And hollowed by inflation
If his ego can stand the rest
We'll throw a party bash
